Should you choose TOTO Drake II or UltraMax II?
There is no performance gap between these two ranges. Both use TORNADO FLUSH, both are available at 1.28 and 1.0 gallons per flush, both carry CEFIONTECT glaze and both sit at universal ADA height.
What differs is how much choice each gives you. Drake II has nine models against five, and covers ground UltraMax II does not: a round bowl for tight rooms, and S2 and S5 washlets for anyone who wants a bidet seat without paying S7 prices.
UltraMax II is the narrower, more premium range. Every model is one-piece and elongated, and washlets start at S7. What you get for that is a seamless shape with no tank seam to clean around.
Price is close to a wash where the two ranges meet. At S7 and S7A the UltraMax II is about $16 cheaper than the Drake II equivalent, which is not enough to decide anything. Drake II is cheaper only at the bare-toilet level, and part of that gap is the seat, since most bare Drake II models are sold less seat while the UltraMax II includes a SoftClose.
Check your rough-in before you choose. Drake II fits a 12 inch rough-in only. UltraMax II also supports 10 and 14 inch using the TSU01W adapter, sold separately. If your measurement is not 12 inches, that settles it.
Choose Drake II if you want a round bowl, an S2 or S5 washlet, or the cheapest way in. Choose UltraMax II if you want a one-piece, need rough-in flexibility, or are buying at S7 or above anyway. For the wider ranges including the original Drake and UltraMax, see our Drake vs UltraMax comparison.
