Should you buy the TOTO Drake or Drake II?

If you last compared these two a few years ago, the answer has changed. The original Drake used TOTO's G-Max flush and the Drake II was the upgrade that introduced TORNADO FLUSH and CEFIONTECT glaze.

That gap has closed. TOTO rebuilt the Drake line, and current Drake models carry TORNADO FLUSH and CEFIONTECT as standard. Flushing power and bowl cleaning are now the same across both lines.

What remains is water use and price. Drake II is the only one offering 1G at 1.0 gallons per flush, and every Drake II is universal height. If lowest possible water consumption matters, that is the line.

Drake is cheaper at every level — $482 against $853 for a bare toilet, and $277 to $369 less once a washlet is fitted. It also still offers 1.6 GPF, which suits long or sloped drain runs and older plumbing that relies on volume.

Note that California and several other states prohibit toilets above 1.28 GPF, so the 1.6 GPF Drake is not an option everywhere. Check your local code before ordering.

For most bathrooms the Drake is the sensible buy, simply because you are no longer paying the Drake II premium for a better flush. Choose Drake II if you want 1.0 GPF, universal height as standard, or the Sedona Beige finish.
