TOTO WASHLET Troubleshooting: Common Problems and Fixes

The short answer

Most WASHLET faults come down to three things: no power at the outlet, a closed or partly closed water supply, or a blocked filter screen. Check those three before anything else — they account for the large majority of problems.

Start with these three checks

Before working through specific symptoms, rule these out. They cause most WASHLET faults, and all three take a minute.

  1. Power. Is the seat plugged in and the GFCI outlet reset? Press the test then reset button on the outlet. A tripped GFCI is the single most common cause of a completely dead seat.
  2. Water supply. Is the T-valve behind the toilet fully open? A partly closed valve gives weak spray or no spray at all.
  3. Filter screen. There is a mesh screen where the water line enters the seat. Sediment blocks it gradually, so pressure drops off over months rather than suddenly.

No water from the nozzle

  • Confirm the supply valve is fully open.
  • Check the seat sensor — WASHLETs will not spray unless they detect someone seated. Sitting slightly forward can prevent it registering.
  • Clean the filter screen. Turn off the water first, disconnect the hose at the seat, and rinse the mesh.
  • If you have just installed it, check the hose is on the outlet side of the T-valve, not the tank side.

Water is cold

  • Check the water temperature setting on the remote — it may have been turned down.
  • If your model uses a heated tank rather than instant heating, the warm water lasts about 40 seconds and then runs cold until it reheats. That is normal behaviour, not a fault. (If upgrading, look into Bidets with Instant and Unlimited Warm Water).
  • If the seat has been unplugged recently, give it a few minutes to heat up.
  • Check energy-saving mode is not active — it lowers the water temperature during set hours.

Weak spray pressure

  • Raise the pressure setting on the remote.
  • Clean the filter screen, the usual cause of gradual pressure loss.
  • Run the nozzle-clean cycle — mineral deposits build up on the wand.
  • Check the supply valve is fully open, not just partly.

The wand will not extend or retract

  • Run the nozzle-clean cycle, which usually frees a sticking wand.
  • Unplug the seat for 30 seconds and plug it back in to reset it.
  • Check nothing is obstructing the wand's path — a loose seat cover or cleaning cloth left behind.
  • If it still will not move, do not force it. The wand is driven by a small motor and can be damaged.

The seat is not heating

  • Check the seat temperature setting.
  • Check energy-saving mode is not lowering it during certain hours.
  • Confirm the seat sensor recognises you are seated — the heater and the bidet seat both depend on it.

Lights are blinking

A blinking light usually means the seat has detected a fault and stopped. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If the pattern returns immediately, note the pattern — the number of flashes indicates the error, and your model's manual lists the codes.

The remote is not responding

  • Replace the batteries — this fixes it far more often than expected.
  • Check the line of sight between the remote and the receiver on the seat.
  • Bright sunlight on the receiver can interfere with the infrared signal.
  • Try the manual controls on the side panel of the seat. If those work, the fault is in the remote, not the seat.

Water is dripping from the seat

  • A small amount of water in the bowl after a wash cycle is normal — the wand rinses itself.
  • Check the hose connections at both ends for a loose fitting.
  • If water is coming from the body of the seat rather than a connection, unplug it and stop using it. That needs service.

When to call rather than keep trying

  • Water is leaking from the seat body, not a hose connection.
  • The seat trips the GFCI repeatedly.
  • The wand is stuck and will not respond to a reset.
  • An error code returns immediately after a power cycle.

TOTO WASHLETs carry a manufacturer warranty. If your seat came from us, call or text and we will help you work out whether it is a fault or a setting. Explore All Bidets if you need a full replacement.

Check these first

  • Press test then reset on the GFCI outlet.
  • Open the water supply valve fully.
  • Clean the filter screen where the hose meets the seat.
  • Unplug for 30 seconds to reset the seat.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no water coming out of my WASHLET?
Most often a closed supply valve, a blocked filter screen, or the seat sensor not registering that you are seated.
Why is my WASHLET water cold?
Either the temperature setting is low, energy-saving mode is active, or your model uses a heated tank and the warm water has run out mid-wash.
How do I reset a TOTO WASHLET?
Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in. That clears most temporary faults.
Why is my WASHLET spray weak?
Usually a clogged filter screen or mineral build-up on the wand. Clean both before assuming a fault.
How often should I clean the nozzle?
Run the self-clean cycle weekly. It takes seconds and prevents most pressure problems.
