What Makes a TOTO Toilet Different

The flush is engineered around the water it uses

TORNADO FLUSH uses a hole-free rim and dual nozzles to create a centrifugal rinsing action that cleans the bowl more efficiently. DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH goes further, using 100% of the water to clean and rinse through a 2.5-inch trapway with a quieter flush, in 1.0/0.9 GPF and 1.28/0.8 GPF versions. CEFIONTECT glaze keeps the bowl smoother for longer

CEFIONTECT is TOTO's ceramic glaze, and it creates an extraordinarily smooth surface that helps keep the bowl cleaner longer. On models with a WASHLET, PREMIST wets the bowl before use to aid the removal of waste, and EWATER+ mists the wand and bowl after each flush, reducing the need for harsh cleaning chemicals.

Skirted styling and coded finishes

A skirted design conceals the trapway behind smooth lines that are easy to clean. TOTO codes the finish at the end of the model number: #01 Cotton White, #11 Colonial White, #12 Sedona Beige, #03 Bone.

What to Check Before You Order

The constraints matter more than a feature list:

  • Rough-in options vary by series. Aquia IV, Carlyle II, Legato and Aimes reach 10 and 14 inches through a Unifit adapter; the Nexus is 12 and 14 inch only; Drake II, UltraMax and UltraMax II are 12 inch only.
  • A Unifit adapter is fitted during installation and cannot be added later without lifting the toilet, so order it with the toilet. Part numbers are series-specific.
  • The toilet needs no power, but a WASHLET+ seat does. Plan on a grounded outlet within reach.
  • Round bowls are the exception here. Nearly everything in this collection is elongated.
  • TOTO warrants its plumbing products for one year from purchase. Its lifetime warranty covers faucets, cast iron tubs and accessories, not toilets.

How to Choose a TOTO Toilet

Six decisions settle almost every TOTO order: rough-in, bowl shape, seat height, tank configuration, flush volume, and how much WASHLET you want on top. Work through them in that order and a long model list narrows to a handful.

1. Measure your rough-in first

Rough-in is the distance from the finished wall to the center of the closet bolts at the base of your toilet. Measure to the wall, not the baseboard, and use the back pair of bolts if there are four. The answer lands on 10, 12 or 14 inches. Twelve is the common size, but measure yours first, because rough-in decides which series you can consider. 2. Match the bowl shape

Measure from the center of the seat bolts to the front edge of the ceramic. About 16.5 inches is a round bowl; about 18.5 inches is elongated. Elongated is more supportive and gives you far more models and bidet seats to choose from. Round saves two inches of floor space, which matters in a powder room. 3. Pick Universal Height or Standard Height

Universal Height puts the seat about two inches higher, roughly 17 to 19 inches from the floor instead of 15, and it meets ADA seat height. TOTO encodes it in the model number: an F in the SKU means Universal Height, and the two versions are otherwise the same toilet. Taller adults and anyone with knee or hip trouble should take the taller bowl. See the height comparison.

4. Choose one-piece, two-piece or wall-hung

A one-piece fuses tank and bowl into one unit with fewer joints and less to wipe around. A two-piece arrives as separate parts, easier to carry upstairs and easier to service one component at a time. Wall-hung models mount on an in-wall carrier and have no floor rough-in. Compare TOTO one piece toilets and TOTO two piece toilets.

5. Set your flush volume

1.28 GPF is the safe default anywhere in the country and is what WaterSense certification requires. Several TOTO ranges also come in a 1G version at 1.0 gallons per flush, and dual flush models add a reduced flush for liquid waste. Several states have adopted 1.28 as the legal maximum for new installations, so check your local rules before choosing a 1.6. Start with TOTO dual flush toilets.

6. Decide how much WASHLET you want

The seat, not the bowl, decides your wash features, so the sets here are grouped by seat: toilets with the WASHLET S2 through toilets with the WASHLET S7A. Every WASHLET washes with warm water and has a heated seat. Higher models add a warm-air dryer, a deodorizer, and EWATER+.
